A History of Ireland Tour: Sept 20-28,2013

That Ireland is a very special place does not surprise anyone. But did you know that it is also unique in Europe for the sheer number of historical ruins—called "monuments"—that blanket its beautiful landscape? In fact, much of Ireland's 6,000-year history lies scattered about its hills, fields, and mountaintops, waiting for the curious traveler to reach out and touch, to experience the country's long and rich past.

This September Irish historian and University of Wisconsin lecturer Mary Magray will be leading a nine-day tour to Ireland to explore this fascinating and dramatic history. From Neolithic dolmens dating to 4,000 BCE and two of the most impressive passage tomb temples in all of Europe to Iron Age stone forts, early Christian settlement sites from the age of Saint Patrick (and possibly even before!), Norman castles, Renaissance plantation settlements, Georgian "big houses," and the acclaimed National Famine Museum, this trip promises to be an exciting, enriching, and unforgettable journey.

For complete details including the trip itinerary and to register for this special tour,
